Mairéad McClean wins Kinoscop Festival Curator Award 2024

“For a visionary, highly symbolic, and daringly experimental exploration of the profound connections between past events and their influence on the present and future, the Curator’s Award is presented to Irish filmmaker Mairéad McClean for Acts of Memory. This remarkable film seamlessly blends substance with a hybrid style, offering an insightful and thought-provoking cinematic experience.”

A HUGE congratulations to Mairéad McClean who was recently awarded the Kinoscop International Festival of Analog Experimental Cinema’s Curator’s Award 2024 for her film, ‘Acts of Memory’.

The Belgrade-Based Kinoscop Festival celebrates experimental approaches to working with celluloid in the digital age. It showcases imaginative films that evoke powerful audiovisual experiences and thought-provoking reflections, drawing inspiration from experimental, surrealist, and underground cinema. Insta: @kinoskop_festival

Mairéad’s film also premiered in December at the Rencontres International Science and Arts Film Festival (RISC) in Marseille, France. This festival celebrates films that connect the arts and science through the lens of the artist/filmmaker. ‘Acts of Memory’, with its AI narrator, fit in perfectly. Mairéad was in conversation after the film with Véronique Ginouvès, Head of the Research Archives – Sound Archives Center at the Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l’homme (Aix-en-Provence).
