Archival History | Copy of a Down Survey map that survived the fire of 1711 in the Council Office, Dublin Castle, by Daniel O’Brien. O’Brien was previously a clerk at Dublin Port and working under the instruction of Robert Rochford, Deputy Surveyor of Lands. Rochford took these copies into his private care from where they passed to his widow, his executor and eventually into the custody of Reeves and Company of Merrion Square, Dublin, the solicitors for the Forfeited Estates Commission. The copies re-emerged 1965, when the collection was sold in two sections to the National Library of Ireland and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. |
