Items found in the collections of the Public Record office of Northern Ireland and the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland reveal points of connection in Irish and American pasts.
As we approach a series of 250th anniversaries relating to the period of the American Revolution it is important to interrogate and reflect on these connections. This is the focus of an event hosted by PRONI, in partnership with the VRTI. ‘Ireland and America: 250th Anniversary Perspectives’, will bring experts including Professor Ian McBride (Oxford), Dr Sophie Cooper (Queens University Belfast), Professor David Dickson (Trinity College Dublin) and Dr Patrick Fitzgerald (Mellon Centre for Migration Studies) together to discuss the ways in which Irish and American histories are entangled and interconnected.
The aim of the event is to shed critical light on the records that allow us to trace these connections, and in doing so gather new perspectives on Ireland and America.
