Deep History, Deepening Collaborations

6 Looking to the future In the next three years (2023–2025), we will continue to expand and extend the reconstruction of the PROI’s collections destroyed in the Four Courts blaze of 1922, building on the achievements of the centenary launch. Our work retraces the footsteps of the archival heroes of one hundred years ago, who retrieved damaged records from the rubble, preserved them for posterity and began a hunt for replacement archives in libraries and archives at home and abroad. Drawing on the generosity of our partners , we will discover, digitise, and make freely accessible newly- identified archival riches — enhancing and expanding dramatically the reconstructed Virtual Treasury. The research covers the full seven centuries of Irish history held within the original Record Treasury. We will enhance digital capacity and empower research collaboration within and between local, regional, national, and international cultural partners. We will inspire public engagement with Ireland’s deep history and democratise access to authentic sources for the past, enriching individuals and communities with a fuller appreciation and understanding of Ireland’s deep history and the place of its people in the history of the world. In doing so, the Virtual Treasury will demonstrate international leadership in archival reconstruction and cultural heritage recovery — truly distinguishing Ireland as a world leader in Cultural Heritage recovery and the creative exploration of digital archives . “Making Ireland a world leader in Cultural Heritage recovery and the creative exploration of digital archives”.
