63 Creating Archives, Making History: D.A. Chart (1878–1960) A Centenary Symposium Celebrating PRONI’s Founding Deputy Keeper Date: Thursday, 28 September 2023 Venue: Public Record Office of Northern Ireland This September, the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), in conjunction with the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland, will host a one-day symposium on the life and career of David Chart, founding Deputy Keeper of PRONI. Chart was a senior archivist in the Public Record Office in Dublin before its destruction in 1922. He later became a key figure in the creation of PRONI in the 1920s. He was also hugely influential in the fields of public history, heritage and social activism. This event, open to the public, will explore all of these facets of his life and career, with a panel of expert historians and archivists.
